At the end of every year, Santa Claus receives an enormous number of letters and cards. They arrive from all over the world: from Europe and America, from Africa and China, from Australia and even the Hawaiian Islands – in short, from everywhere there are little children.

And so, a boy named Max, who lived in a small but very beautiful town in the USA, decided that it was time for him to send something to Santa as well.

Usually, he would write a letter, telling Santa how he had behaved throughout the year and what he would like to find as a gift under the Christmas tree.

But this time Max thought: “What if I make my own beautiful New Year’s card for Santa Claus? It will be the brightest and most wonderful of all. Santa will be so surprised!”

Without wasting a moment, Max rushed to his room.

He cleared his desk, took a huge sheet of white paper that his father used for blueprints, got out his watercolor paints, pencils, eraser, and even two jars of glitter – and began to create.

When the card was almost ready, Max opened the jars of glitter and was just about to sprinkle them when, accidentally bumping them with his elbow, he overturned them onto his work. The glitter spilled everywhere and began to spread across the paper. Unexpectedly – but beautifully. The picture became bright and magical.

“Wow!” exclaimed Max. “This is amazing! My card shines brighter than a Christmas tree!”
